In the early days of the store (and the industry) it was possible to obtain close-outs and B-grades to sell at very reduced prices. The original store location in downtown Phoenix fit very nicely with this business plan -- anyone who remembers the old store will attest: the store itself was on a budget! As the industry matured, those bargain buys got scarce, so the store had to take on a current look, and finally the emphasis became latest and greatest.
Strapped Jock was the place to find the new, the unusual, the hard-to-find: decidedly the alternative to the mall, the big box, or the less technical store. But always at discount prices -- it's in the name!
Running has always been the emphasis at the Strapped: owners and employees have included NCAA All-Americans, Olympic Trials qualifiers, World Championships team members, High School State champions, elite marathoners, and of course plain old citizen runners.
After an explosion and subsequent fire destroyed the original location, new digs were needed. In the fall of 1998 the Strapped Jock joined forces with SouthWest Bicycles in north Phoenix to offer "cycling shoes along with running, track & field, cross-country, and road racing shoes." No more basketball, tennis, cross-training, aerobics, etc.!
In late 2003, the current location opened bringing our little history to the present. Strapped Jock in northwest Phoenix: running shoes for training, road racing, track & field, and cross-country.
